JOB OPPORTUNITY

Part Time Naturalist

Position: Part-time Naturalist
Hours:  Part-time, up to 20 hours per week with varied schedules and dates
Pay Rate: $12.00 – 16.00/hour (based on experience)

DUTIES MAY INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Part-time Naturalists lead environmental education and school garden programs with students in grades K - 7 in classrooms and on school campuses. Programs are usually 1 to 2 hours long, and are often presented multiple times a day.  Average group size is 20 - 35.  In addition to teaching programs, Part-time Naturalists may develop other programs, assist with interpretive hikes, lead evening and weekend activities, develop special projects, and assist with coordinating programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years of college or equivalent experience in natural history, science, education or related field, experience working with children, natural history and outdoor skills background, enthusiasm and energy. We need people who have a genuine love for the outdoors and the ability to share their appreciation with others. We also need staff who are willing to communicate and be committed to being an integral part of a small staff that works together in a demanding job.

Skill in: public speaking; the design and implementation of educational programs, the use of a personal computer, and current office software applications.

Ability to: identify species of flora and fauna commonly found in the region; interpret landscaping plans; establish and maintain professional and effective working relationships with teachers, coworkers, volunteers, and the general public; and communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must possess and retain a valid California Class C Driver's License. Must be willing and able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Must be able to work outside in a variety of weather conditions.

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY

Restoration and Office Internship

Position: Restoration Intern (Assists the Restoration Lead and Field Ecologist (Site Manager)
(Part-time, up to 40 hours per week with varied schedules and dates) 150hour; 250hr and 500 hr internships are available.
Pay Rate: unpaid, Class Credit with School Approval. For class Credit a research project may be required separate from internship duties.

DUTIES MAY INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Under supervision, assists the Director of Restoration, Field Ecologist/Site Manager and Restoration Lead with performing activities related to the removal of non native plant species and installation of native species of plants for both Restoration sites and landscaping projects. Assists with the promoting of public awareness of natural resources, and is current with codes and regulations relating to wildlife and plant management. Works with staff to eliminate floral pests, assists with analyzing and monitoring resources. Operates scientific field equipment, takes inventory of animal and plant life in various sites, and performs other related duties as assigned. Assist with school programs and public events and programs as necessary.
REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation from high school supplemented by college-level coursework in natural sciences, ecology, environmental studies, or other related disciplines; or equivalent combination of experience and education Knowledge of: regional botany, wildlife and geography; applicable codes and regulations related to wildlife and plant management is helpful but not necessary; basic grounds maintenance practices; methods, materials, tools and equipment used for installation, maintenance and repair operations; principles and practices of resource interpretation; and effective oral and written communication. Some knowledge of natural resources management and interpretive techniques is highly desirable.
Skill in: the use of a personal computer, and current office software applications. Public speaking is helpful.
Ability to: communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English.
